When People Hear My Music, It Reminds Them of Love, "Says Soul Recording Artist, Tony Walk!"

Tony Walk is an accomplished singer, songwriter, and producer. Among his musical credits are work with Aretha Franklin, Billy Preston, En vogue, Celine Dion, Little Richard, Andre Crouch, Etta James, Miki Howard, and Vesta Williams. I had the honor of interviewing this outstanding vocalist. This is what he shared with me about his life, his dreams, and his musical career.

Can you tell me about your background? How did you become interested in music? I was born and raised in South Central, LA. My musical career began at the church's first goodwill missionary Baptist church.

What would you say is positive about being an independent artist? One of the positive aspects of being a musician is that you can touch people's hearts all over the world without even being there.

As a musician, what are some of the challenges you face? Unless you're a well-known artist, it's difficult to get people to see your vision. Much of the music I hear is in my head and that’s how I sing it.

What type of music do you play? I love listening to instrumental jazz. However, when I listen to music that has lyrics, Miki Howard, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Nancy Wilson, and Ledisi are artists that I love because they are able to sing like no other!

Who are your band members and how did you meet? My band consists of friends I've met throughout the years. They are great people and love what they do.

Describe the style of your music that sets you apart from other musicians. The most common comment people make when they hear my music is that it reminds them of love.

Who do you consider to be your favorite independent artist? Mykal Kilgore

Who are your musical influences? Ledisi, Miki Howard, Elaine Gibbs, Madame Dee, and Madame Dee are a few of my favorite female artists.

When preparing for a show, how do you deal with public opinion (whether positive or negative)? The more I focus on doing my best, the more I disregard others' opinions.

How would you advise musicians entering this rapidly changing industry? Do not fear change, be confident in your abilities. Believe that God has given you what you need, and everything else will follow.

Do you play any instruments? Despite the fact that I do not play an instrument, I would love to learn how to play the piano. My only instrument is my voice.

Do you currently have any singles or albums out? Currently, I have 7 singles and one album out." Introducing Tony walk."

How did you come up with the idea for your latest album/song? Where can people purchase it? In my latest single, "stay", I tell the story of someone who realized that saying sorry and working things out are more valuable than letting go. My next album is called "Good Vibes Only" and will be released on May 6, 2022.

Can you tell me about your upcoming shows? On May 6, 2022, I will release my new album, Good Vibes Only. It's all about feeling good and sending positive energy to those around me. I wish I could play the piano! My voice has been the only thing I've had, and I'm just getting going.

How has Covid affected you in a positive way? Both negatively and positively. I spent a lot of time evaluating who I was and where I was in my life. This brought me back to my first love, which is music.

What advice would you like to give to an upcoming artist? No matter what your goal is, keep working until you achieve it. You will reap the rewards of your efforts tomorrow. No matter how it looks, believe that your ancestors are fighting for your success.

Just for fun - *The Indie Post pointless question of the month* How do you make your funky P Funk when you want to get funked up? I surround myself with people that like to get funky. So when I do choose to get funky they can help me get funked up. Lol

Single,”Stay” available on all platforms on February 11th for his up-and-coming project,”Good Vibes Only” coming in May 6th 2022
