Who are you? where are you from and tell me about your start in acting?

My name is Nikisha Theus. I was born in the beautiful city of Lakewood Ca. on August 4, 1977. I am a comedian and actor. All my life I was told I was funny. I am so blessed to have a gift that brings smiles and laughter to so many people. I started acting about 10 yrs ago. I love it! What I enjoy the most about being an actress is that I get to play many different characters. In the past, I've had the opportunity to appear in different roles on Stage plays, short films, and web series. I love it!

What made you want to take the role? What role did you play in "Maylene's 2020 year" and what made you decide to take this role?

Gina Sedman is the reason I decided to take the role of "Maylene's 2020 Year". Gina Sedman is a well-known writer, director and producer, and CEO /President of GNA universal Media. I wanted to learn and glean from her expertise. Gina is one of the best independent film producers out there.

What did you like about this character?

I like the fact that I was able to relate to Maylene's character as a comedian that was affected by Covid-19. Like Maylene, I'm also a comedian, and I too was tremendously affected by Covid 19. In 2020, I literally went from having a full gig itinerary to having none. The biggest challenge was to figure a way to keep me and my guest safe and protected.

What did you not like about this character?

The suffering Maylene had to go through. Feeling alone and disappointed and her daily emotional rollercoasters. Maylene represents the everyday average person going through the pandemic.

What was the highlight moment of being in this film?

When Maylene had to go into a dark place and cry because she could not be around her family and friends due to Covid -19 virus. It's hard enough to lose someone you love, but having to be alone to process those emotions is unbearable. I really felt the hurt and pain Maylene was feeling playing that role.

What did you learn about your character Maylene?

That it's important to check on your family and friends often. Sometimes friends and family may appear to be strong but suffering in silence. I also learned the importance of processing your feelings and sharing them with your loved ones. So you can remain in a good space.

What's on your plate next?

One woman Acts. I also plan to start my own Youtube and Instagram channel so that I can engage my audience with quality family-friendly content videos. My ultimate goal is to build a strong social media following. And, I would like to take on more acting roles in movies.

What other talents do you have?

In addition to acting, I enjoy writing, sing, and dancing.

What advice would you like to give aspiring actors?

Study your craft and work hard. Compete with yourself, not others. Become the best version of yourself. Affirm yourself daily. Reach for the stars. Never give up and remain consistent.

I make my funky P-Funk up by putting the funk on the P. Please believe it don't get funky to you put the p on it. This is how we P it lol

Maylene Synopsis

"Maylene's 2020 Year", written, produced, directed, filmed, and edited by Gina Sedman, is a fictional short story about a famous comedian Maylene. When about to leave for her 2020 world tour, she learns that her tours been canceled due to a pandemic. Although she desperately tries to settle into her new quarantine life normal, it won't be a walk in the park.

Maylene is a relatable story about hope, inspiration, faith, emotions, and perseverance with a slight comedic overtone. This is documentation of "Maylene's 2020" Year in quarantine.
