I had the chance to interview Mr. Bey bright about his successful musical journey. Hers what he shared with me.

Who is Bey Bright & how did you get started in the music business?
I was born in Harlem NYC. I grew up between NYC and the Washington DC area now known as the DMV. I was introduced to music when I was a child. My mom enrolled me in the "Harlem School of Arts". In our home, my mom and dad would play soul music daily. I believe, "I got hooked on music from birth. I was inspired to create and perform music because it was a daily part of my existence.
Can you tell me about a standout moment in your musical journey?
Wow, that’s a tough question. However, I’ll say that my most memorable moment was having my "Soul Nostalgia 3" album go #1 on the UK Soul Chart in 2021. Simultaneously, it was #1 on the Amazon UK Best Sellers and Hot New Releases charts. That was an incredible accomplishment for me as an indie artist and label.
What has been a challenge for you?
Investing my last 10,000 dollars into an indie artist. I groomed and poured so much into this artist, only to have our relationship soured. She left me high and dry! I lost everything in the process, including my marriage. I had to rebuild and reinvent myself after that situation.

Who are your musical influences?
I have many musical influences, however, the most influential ones are Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson, New Edition, Teddy Riley, Andre Harrell, Kenny Gamble, and Leon Huff, and Rick James.
Bey, who would you like to record a song with?
I’d love to do a duet with Jasmine Sullivan and have a song written for me by Smokey Robinson.

What is the last song you’ve listened to by another artist and who are your present favorites?
The last song I listened to by another artist was by Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak. Their song, "Leave the Door Open" is incredibly soulful and fresh.
What was your most embarrassing moment while at a live performance or interview?
None to speak of so far! Knock on wood! LOL!
How many singles/albums do you have out presently and are there any projects in the works?
To date, I have over 75 songs in my music catalog. Those songs consist of my personal records, where I am the lead vocalist, and of songs I’ve written and produced for other indie artists. They’re the featured artist.
What do you typically do before performing live or recording?
Personal prayer and a group prayer before every performance. I ask the Creator for a blessed show or an amazing studio session/recording.
What advice would you like to give to an upcoming artist?
My advice is to (1) Keep your ego in check (2) Learn the business side of the music industry (3) Enjoy the journey.
